The design may exist in the mind of the woodcarving artist. In this case, he directly conveys what he has in mind to the work level. In another case, the designer draws the design on paper and gives it to the inlay artist. This plan is transferred to the work surface in three ways.
How to inlay
We clamp the workpiece. First, with Maghar Shafera, we define the outline of the design and separate it from the background. Then, with the right gouge, we cut the work area down in such a way that the hollowed surfaces are the same throughout the area. Then we continue the inlaying process with different holes and according to the fit of the design in terms of curvature of straight and curved lines, dimples and protrusions. And depending on the amount of wood to be removed, we give different angles to the tip of the cave. To lift and dig the ground, we use hammer blows on the handle of the caver, and when confirming the main design, we hold the caver with both hands.
When the direction of movement of the cave is from right to left, the handle of the cave is placed in the right hand. In this case, the inlaid work is called right-handed. Now, if the carver wants to move the cave from left to right, he must separate the work from the clamp and change its direction, or he himself must go to the other side of the clamp. If the woodcarving is "left-handed", the opposite of these steps takes place.
Experienced artists work woodcarving with both hands; The advantage of this method is that it is easier for the artist to perform the work and waste of time is avoided. When working with a chisel, we occasionally smear the tip of the chisel with oil so that the chisel works smoothly and removes shavings evenly. In the next step, we apply oil or polyester to it so that the wood does not crack over time and is resistant to moisture.
